ADVISOR SPOTLIGHT

What’s your firm’s AUM?

$330 million

Can you provide a brief overview of your background and experience in financial advising?

I grew up and reside in Kansas City, where one of our three offices is located. I graduated with a Masters in Business Administration in 2018 and received my Certified Financial Planner designation in 2022. I have worked in financial services for 6 years and have been a wealth advisor for the past 3 years.

What inspired you to become a financial advisor, and what do you enjoy most about your profession?

I enjoy having a small part of a client’s life journey. It brings a lot of joy helping them align their resources with their values and aspirations in life. Seeing a client check off a bucket list item, or reach a financial milestone they did not think was possible, is one of the most gratifying parts of this profession.

What are your views around being on your own or via wirehouse?

I would never be part of a wirehouse. I deeply value the independence our practice brings. The independence allows us to act as fiduciaries in the best way possible for clients.

What is your approach to financial planning and investment management?

Our approach is a values-based, comprehensive, and proactive financial planning model. Embark leads with financial planning first with a strong base CFP professionals, then integrates investment management into that plan. Investment management is one piece to the puzzle and part of a broader strategy. The financial planning process is iterative, ongoing, and covers virtually all areas of a client's financial life (tax strategy, retirement, estate, insurance and risk, cash flow, education, and investment management).

How do you tailor your services to meet the specific needs and goals of your clients?

Our service is a structured, but highly personalized process We tailor everything we do around the specific goals, priorities, and situation of clients. We start by building a deep understanding of their financial life, then create a plan that’s customized to them, not a template. From there, we align the investments, tax strategy, insurance, estate, cash flow, and financial decisions to support that plan. We then continuously adjust it as their life evolves.

Can you share a success story or case study where you helped a client achieve their financial goals?

We had a 55-year old business owner who recently retired and sold their business. One of their goals in retirement was buying their dream retirement home, with enough land to host lots of family. A house for $650,000 came on the market that checked all the client's boxes. We analyzed the client's income needs, assets, purchase price of the home, and longevity risk of outliving her retirement assets. We ran the scenarios of all cash offer with no debt or financing the home purchase. The client preferred no debt if possible. After analyzing the scenarios, we were able to recommend the all cash offer for the home. The client's offer was accepted and the cannot be happier that they are in their dream home. This success story is one of many that makes this job so rewarding.

I participate in my local Financial Planning Association chapter meetings, symposium and attend industry conferences and continuing education sessions. I also read articles and thoughts daily from asset partners and follow thought leaders such as Michael Kitces, Carl Richards, and Josh Brown.

What are some common misconceptions people have about financial planning, and how do you address them?

A common misconception is that financial planning is just managing your money and investments. Financial planning is so much more than that. I address them by showing that areas of taxes, retirement, cash flow, estate, insurance, and investments are all puzzle pieces in the financial plan. Investments are only one piece of the greater puzzle. Financial planning brings all those pieces together so a client can see the full picture.

What are your thoughts on the current economic climate and its implications for investors?

The current economic climate changes on a week to week basis. For investors this means you have to be dynamic and continually underwrite and verify your investment thesis. In practice for us, this means balancing both strategic and core allocations for long-term investments while also incorporating tactical positioning for short-term opportunities.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting to plan for their financial future?

Build a system that brings awareness to your cash flow and track it. Knowing how and where you save and spend your money is the start to building towards your financial goals. Once you have awareness of your fixed expenses, variable expenses, savings and spending habits, you can build a plan that pushes you towards a promising financial future.

How do you incorporate tax planning into your financial strategies?

Tax planning is a core service of ours. It's brought into every client conversation and strategy. We don't implement any strategy without first planning for taxes. We strive for lifetime tax minimization with our clients.

Can you discuss any specialized areas of expertise or niche markets you focus on?

Financial planning for business owners, executives, pre-retirees, and individuals with equity compensation

How do you prioritize ethical considerations and align investments with clients' values?

We discuss the clients values in every initial introductory and discovery meeting, so that investments match the clients values and ethos.

What sets you apart from other financial advisors, and why should someone choose to work with you?

We bring and lead with a values based financial planning process, first and foremost. We preach and deliver core values to clients of Organization, Vision, Measure Risk, Enhance Aptitude, Seize Opportunities, and Take Action. We want all the puzzle pieces of your financial life to come together into one unified picture that moves clients and prospects towards their ultimate financial goals.

Took a few days to pull this shot off. It was all about the setup. We used a giant piece of foam board maybe 8’x8’ and then cut a 12”x12” circle in the center. Then, we placed a 700W Softbox Light behind the foam board so the light only shined through the circle. Some camera adjustments and the shot was perfect. My head wasn’t the first choice for the photo but it ended up being the most interesting silhouette.
